A few weeks ago, I posted how my dog Wilma was entered in the Twin Cities Cutest Canine online contest. To my surprise, she has made it through every round and is currently in the final ten dogs, from an original 6,562.
I am planning on donating all prize money to a friend and ex-coworker of mine, Kelli, to help with her expenses. So far this is $125, and a match from me brings the donation to $250. If Wilma is so lucky as to win the grand prize of $1000, a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous has volunteered to match the $1000 as well, all to be given directly to Kelli.
Kelli was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease earlier this year. For those not familiar with it, it is a progressive degenerative disease that will make muscle control more and more difficult for Kelli, up to and including muscle control of things like breathing and swallowing. It is also fatal.
Kelli has literally spent her entire life helping dogs. She runs Bullmastiff rescue here in the twin cities, has worked animal control, has written articles on veterinary care, and is an emergency veterinary technician. If you want to read more about who she is and how she's helped dogs, I wrote about it in my personal lj here. It only seems right that after a lifetime of helping dogs, that a dog helps her, even if it's just in a small way.
I want to be clear that I'm not trying to use my friend's illness to "get more votes" for Wilma, because that thought is absolutely repulsive to me. It's more that I'd love to see her win, not for me, but for Kelli. And I totally have bragging rights already, and a great dog! What do I need $1000 for when Kelli could use it more?
And on top of that, last week someone who heard about Kelli and wishes to remain anonymous has offered to match the $1000 donation if Wilma wins. I just about cried when I read that.

Voting lasts between now and midnight on Thursday, January 22. Each person can vote once per hour. If you're bored between now and then and want to throw some votes Wilma's way, I'd be very appreciative....BUT I only want you to vote if you think Wilma is actually cute.. As much as I want to be able to give that money to Kelli to help her out even more, I want votes to be honest and in the spirit of the contest.

I have a real quick request for everyone. My french bulldog Wilma is currently entered in the Twin Cities Cutest Dog contest. There are over 6500 dogs entered so I have no delusions that she'll actually win, but I would love to see her make a strong showing and see people vote for her. And I really do think she's pretty darn cute:

All personal attachment aside, she is an old dog...an old bulldog even. And I would love to see that type of cute win over the typical fluffy puppy entry. Every puppy is cute at 8 weeks, and don't get me wrong....I totally LOVE puppies. But I think takes a special kind of cute for a dog to stay that way at 8 1/2 years when their puppy charm has faded and they're missing half their teeth.
So please vote for Wilma! You can vote up to 30 times total (once per hour) for a photo, and if you'd like, I would really appreciate it if you could even vote multiple times. And if you think she's cute, totally tell friends and ask them to take two minutes to vote for her as well!
You can vote here: http://startribune.upickem.net/engine/Details.aspx?contestid=4247&pagetype=VOTING&SubmissionID=417313
Thanks for showing Wilma some love. :)

I might be going crazy, but I think when Eddie (14 wks) woke up from his nap one of his ears was a bit floppier than usual. Thoughts? It doesn't seem to bother him at all. I read on a few places that a Frenchie's ears will do what they want to do during puppy stages and then become erect as an adult, I'm just irrationally worried.

10:00 pm - Introducing a puppy?

Tomorrow morning we are coming home with a Frenchie who is 10 weeks old. At home we already have 2 English - Annie, who is the most laidback/loving dog ever, and Henry, who has shown to be great with puppies when he meets them elsewhere (never met one at home) and sometimes has a complex with bigger dogs.
We are mostly looking for advice as to how to introduce the puppy to a dominant (neutered) male. ANY tips are appreciated!
x-posted to maximize advice :)

Hi, i just joined the community, i do not CURRENTLY own a french bulldog, but i want one so, so bad. My parents are at the "Maybe...prove your responsible enough and then... blah blah blah" (Since i'm 14 i have no choice but to listen to them) so, since i want to learn as much about the breed as possible, i figured this would be the perfect place to join, my names kristin, by the way. But yeah, i just wanted to do an introduction of myself...
Question: Ok, would it be better to get a puppy from a breeder or from a pet store with a really good reputation...i currently have my eye on this one... (I picked out the puppies name even before i knew what kind i wanted, i chose Audrey because Audrey Hepburn is my all-time favorite actress ever)
( Audrey? Maybe? )
Is that a lot of money for a frenchie? A woman who lives around here had them going in the paper for 300... Is that too low of a price? I'm sorry, i'm just easily confused and have a lot of questions. thank you =] -Kristin

If you live in the Houston area, there is going to be a French Bulldog Meetup at the Danny Jackson Dog Park. Tomorrow (Saturday, the 29th) at 9:30AM.
This is south of the Galleria, just inside the loop 610 and just South of 59, on Westpark Drive between Loop 610 and Loop Central.
Amenities: Large and small dog separate areas each with a pond, new trees, benches, walking path.
You can find a map at http://www.houstondogpark.org/locations.htm
Also, if you would like to join the Houston French Bulldog Meetup group, let me know and I will send you the link.
